The company Yahoo have recently introduced a new and improved version of their Yahoo Maps. This is currently available in the US and in beta stage in India. They are hoping to entice back users who stitched to using Google and Microsoft. Yahoo Maps have included a lot of new content such as colour coded street maps for cities such as San Francisco and New York. The site has also included terrain overlays, driving instructions for over 34 European countries and building footprints. Yahoo is hoping to increase the number of colour coded street maps for many more cities. Yahoo is hoping to catch up with and overtake Google who are the number one in mapping and have over forty nine million visitors.
Yahoo has recently changed their mapping technology which they hope will make upgrades to the system a lot quicker and easier. However they still may not be able to compete with Google and Microsoft’s 3-D overlays and their personal data options. Google has also recently released a My Maps feature. As well as trying to encourage visitors back to their mapping system, Yahoo also need to encourage their advertisers back too.
