CMS Programs

October 9th, 2007 · No Comments

CMS programs which are often referred to as Content Management Systems are used by a large number of people today who are involved in online business. However mainly these programs are deployed in order that people are able to contribute to other sites. For example Wikipedia one of the most well known of all information sites to be found on the web today has its own CMS program called Wiki.

It is through their program that Wikipedia is able to control the content that appears on their site from files (whether computer, audio or video) to images and electronic documents. Thus through the use of a good CMS program a person can not only make this information available to those within their office as well as to others on the web.

However today there are some companies who solely use such programs as a way of storing information which they do not require at any one time. Plus it allows them to then share these files with others within the company much more easily. Also because many of these programs now are server based this means that the files stored within them are much more readily available to a larger group of people. Whilst there are even some programs that will have a feature that allows the flow of work to be processed more readily.

How To Write an Internet Business Plan

July 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Writing an Internet business plan for a website or online business is very similar to writing a business plan for a traditional small business. An Internet business plan should include all basic business plan elements. Here are the primary components for writing an Internet business plan:

Executive Summary. Internet business plans need an executive summary. The executive summary is usually the first section of an Internet business plan. An executive summary simply serves as an overview or summary of everything else in the Internet business plan, and would include a very general company description.

Website or Business Summary. The business summary or website summary of an Internet business plan will offer the reader a glimpse of who company is and what they do. It should describe the website or online business in detail, as well as some general information about the market or niche. Mention who owns or manages the website or online business, what the site is about or trying to offer, when the site was launched, where the site is located, and why the site or online business was launched in the first place. This is also the section of the business plan which should contain past results and developments of the website or online business.

How Do I Create My Own Web Site?

July 9th, 2007 · 6 Comments

If you know nothing about building or creating a web site from scratch, it may seem hard or even impossible at first to think; ” How do I create my own web site?” That is until you look a little deeper at the many options that are available on the web. In this article I will explain your basic web site options, and how to have your own free web site that is fully free, but good looking and presentable, as well as user friendly and search engine friendly. I will list some of those many options below.

Places like Geocities or similar sites can give you a free site, but you will still need to know what is called hyper text markup language or HTML. If you can not write in HTML, you will need to either use software that can help you do it, or someone who can do it for you for free to use sites like geocities. These types of sites are not user friendly, because of the intrusive advertising, and are also not search engine friendly. If you want to sell things, or provide a service through your site, Geocities and sites like that are not for you. If you do know a bit of HTML and just want a place to express yourself with a free, cheap looking site, then Geocities would be a good fit for you.

Blogs are a way to have a free place to express yourself, but are not very search engine friendly, and you will not be able to have many visitors through the search engines. Plus, just like the Geocities option, the site is not really yours. You will not have all the options and functionality of a site that is actually yours. Blogs are for things like news or daily commentaries, or a way to keep in touch with friends or family. That question; ” How do I create my own web site? ” would not be realized with a blog.

How To Make Your Site ‘Mobile’ Compatible

According to GSM Association there were over 2.4 billion mobile devices that were Internet compatible circulating the mobile networks by mid 2006. This means that cell phones are in the process of becoming one of the most used ways to not only communicate but to receive information. While sitting in traffic, waiting for the train, or at a meeting, one can check their email, sports stats, stocks, order products, and even get directions to a restaurant in seconds. To top it off, it all comes from your mobile device no bigger than your palm.

How It Came To Be

The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) granted .mobi as the suffix to Web sites designed for mobile phones, PDA’s, Blackberry’s and Sidekicks. Then 13 of the leading mobile and Internet organizations registered with Mobile Top Level Domain (mTLD) to begin access in May 2006. In no particular order five of the leading organizations are: Google, Microsoft, Nokia, Telecom and T-Mobile.

Adobe’s Apollo - A New Era In Web Application Development

March 31st, 2007 · No Comments

So what is Apollo? Apollo is the code name for what Adobe calls “a cross-operating system runtime… that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax) to build and deploy RIAs to the desktop.” Apollo’s desktop integration will include installation onto the desktop; application shortcuts, to which all users have already become accustomed; drag and drop capabilities; a clipboard, similar to the clipboards used by Microsoft Word programs; and notifications. Unlike current operating systems, though, Apollo will feature cross-application communication, enabling its many parts to communicate and function as a whole. Apollo’s greatest appeal, however, is that it will provide users with a set of APIs (File I/O, Drag and Drop, Full Network API, Local Storage and Settings, etc…) that will automatically synchronize online and offline content. Adobe plans to package Apollo along with Flash and Acrobat for ease of use. And like Flash, Apollo will be a free runtime for users. It will likely be downloaded along with Flash when users click the automated-prompt built into the site by the developer.
