Don’t Miss Tonight’s Total Lunar Eclipse

lunar eclipseI remember witnessing a lunar eclipse when I was just a 7-year old kid. It was really very exciting since it’s my first time to see a lunar eclipse. As the moon passes the sun we used a basin with water and stare at it and we can see clearly the reflection from the water as the lunar eclipse goes. It worked because we can’t directly stare at the sun.

According to PAGASA(Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration), there will be a total lunar eclipse today, August 28, 2007 which can be seen tonight here in the Philippines if the weather permits. The total eclipse will also be visible in eastern Asia, the Pacific, Australasia, America but except the eastern part of South America and the north-eastern parts of North America, and Antarctica according to a press release by PAGASA.

These are the major phases of the eclipse according to PAGASA:

  1. Moon enters penumbra at 3:52 PM
  2. Moon enters umbra at 4:50 PM
  3. Moon enters totality at 5:52 PM
  4. Middle of eclipse at 7:22 PM
  5. Moon leaves umbra at 8:23 PM
  6. Moon leaves penumbra at 9:22 PM

It’s too bad I won’t be able to see the solar eclipse tonight because it’s too cloudy from where I am (Baguio City) and it has been raining since early this morning.
