Just last year, we heard rumors about Google talks with Orange about a million dollar partnership to make Google phone. It would have been nice to have a Google-branded phone where you can access Google services like Gmail, blogger, calendar, maps or even Adsense wherever you are.
In 2005, Businessweek has reported Google acquiring Android, a company who had at that time been working on an OS(operating system) for mobile phones. This could just be Google’s initial step to push its wireless services. Simeon Simeonov posted about Andy Rubin, Android’s founder, “has a team of about 100 people at Google working on the Google Phone”. According to Simeon’s source, Google’s phone could be:
- Blackberry-like, slick device
- C++ core w/ OS bootstrap (some version of Linux?)
- Optimized Java running on the C++ core (similar to what Andy did at Danger)
- Vector-based presentation courtesy of Skia’s technology
- Many services, including VoIP
This type of phone architecture is similar to the ideal mobile stack I’ve written about previously. It is interesting that Google is going with vector-based presentation, a la Flash Lite, as opposed to DHTML/AJAX.

I personally can not wait for Google to jump into the fun, I love them, love their ideas and products. It can only mean good things for people if they do this.
I believe Google is already on its way to make the google Phone.
