What is Isulong SEOPh?
Yesterday, while surfing the net I came across this post from macalua.com which entitled "The PHP130,000 Philippine SEO Contest". As I read on the Contest Terms and Conditions, my interest grew big as i moved on with the details. There's no doubt that this will surely be a learning event for me, I thought. I want to be part of this. Prior to that, I was already reading Aaron Wall's SEOBook which i bought through my friend's Paypal who happens to live in the USA. I guess this pretty much tells you about my eagerness to learn about my newly found friend named SEO. :>) After some thinking I decided to sms my web host and asked him if he can register a domain for me and just pay for it later. I settled with isulongseophil.com since most of the keyword-rich domain name I was thinking were already taken. With all that excitement and interest I thought I could email this guy, the author of the book, and ask for his advice. And so I did. An hour or two later, I received a reply and here's what he said:
Hi Giovanni,
I would say either look for technical loopholes or if you are not great at that sort of stuff try to create the most useful and original resource cheers aaron
Being a newbie to this SEO thing I didn't quite understand what he meant by technical loopholes. Maybe he was talking about spamming? Or maybe about manipulative techniques? I dont know, Im not sure. Anyways, let me answer the question, what is isulong seoph? It's short for "Isulong SEO Philippines". Isulong means to push forward. This event aims to promote SEO education in the country. With over Php130, 000 in prizes, I might as well try my luck on this. So wish me luck guys! Inaantok na ko(i'm sleepy). Good night!

I would have appreciated the being quoted notification
um the technical loopholes is generally another way of saying spam, but I don’t advocate doing that with anything that you want to do well longterm on.
cheers

I have an interesting view of this contest. On one hand everybody are trying to be number 1 on the Google SERP for Isulong SEOPH, but on the other hand, we are all helping increase the page rank of lakesidetechnologies.com, who are giving away PHP25000 or USD500.
Hmmm…
Did you know that in the US, the basic rate for SEO services & Internet Marketing is around $65 hour (at its a very low rate, considering their local plumber is earning USD100/hr)? Now lets try to calculate on how much money one could make if one person is doing SEO for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for around 100 days, is USD4000 (PHP200,000). Now, how many are participating this contest? Multiply that with USD4000 and we could say we are giving lakesidetechnologies.com the best SEO service ever in the Philippine SEO industry.
Okay, say a contestant is not working on their entries 8 hours a day, the total earned would still be more than USD500.
Now lets look at the Filipino rates. I have a SEO friend in makati earning PHP25,000 a month in his job as SEO. If he is getting paid for 4 months doing this, he would be earning PHP100,000, more than the first prize. Another friend in Cagayan de Oro is currently earning around PHP9000 a month, he would earn, PHP36000 for this, half the amount of the first price. But what are the odds of one winning the contest?
Also, I see many entry sites include the contest terms and mechanics with links of sites of the rest of the sponsors. The way I see that’s how they will get back the money they will pay the winners by getting enormous traffic from entries to their sites. Actually this contest is giving me a very good idea starting my own SEO contest and let my earnings pay for the winner. It is such a fine idea that I might just work. Just a thought….:-)
June 12th, 2006
yeah i know. Im earning almost 3 times more than your friend in makati and why should i waste my time joining this contest for only 40k pesos for four months? That is if i win. It’s probably not worth it, right? But think about this, maybe i wasnt thinking about the money, maybe i was thinking how this event can benefit us all filipinos in general as far as the Internet is concerned. And maybe most of the contestants who joined also view it this way. Or maybe you just dont have the guts to try and too scared to loose…heheheh..(just kidding)

To bad to hear that you guys need to be paid to prove if you can do SEO. I’m sure a lot of spammy tricks will be involved and this is all illegal too
If you can do SEO why you need sponsors? Do you think you can do it better? No way
Advertisement? Yes maybe for a fool

oo. I\’ve been with them since I started my first website on November 2005. Really great support.
June 12th, 2006
Hello everyone, all said here in the contest, is all stolen from E-books or copied from other marketers.
If you set up a contest, dont use sponsors, dont ask money, do it for FREE and give the winner the chance to get a job at local SEO firms that is more worth then 40K diba???
What you think, all spammy tricks, illegal tricks via IP’s etc will be used for the “short-time winner”.
I suggest this: Who ever is number 1,2,3,4 send a spamreport to Google and let them check their work, if the winners are still there after 6 weeks (after ending this contest) then he/she is the winner. Otherwise what the hack can you learn from them?
Make sense right?

Haha… You obviously dont know how google works!
Having a contest of such with google.
Im with SEO for 1-2 Years now. Im telling you now. Someone winning the contest would be slim if it ends by september. Ill tell you why:
If you have a new site, which is said by the rules. You’ll get indexed by google but guess what. You be sandboxed for 3 months! haha…. That means you wont show in any search engine results for 3 months. Thats the least sometimes it goes 6 months.
In my experience the only thing that cracks google is registering sites thats already a year old. And even that isnt guaranteed.
Forget about tag and ping. Google already knows that… theyre probably changing theyre algo about that already.
Forget also about black hat seo. Oh blackhat means unethical tactics such as spamming, cloaking or such. Google is quick to catch with thing like that.
Although theres 1 method I see that penetrates google in short time possible. Its Blogger Blogs. But since you need your own websites its out of the question.
But if you want to proceed heres my tip:
- Register your websites with at least 2 years registration. Google patened such method of assimilating registry time to thier algo.
- slowly build your incoming links.
- put original content on your site thats keyword rich.
- make sure your html coding is clean, very clean!
Its really tough to crack google, even from 2 years experience. Even guys at my SEO forums give up on google, its like, too much of a hassle with less return.
Its good to just target yahoo and MSN and if you have google traffic its a bonus then.
Ey also, if anyone wants to have SEO consultation. Send me an email at baguio_jedox@yahoo.com

GOOD LUCK din sa mga Contestants kagaya ko …
June 14th, 2006
no offense but with jed baguio’s 2 year SEO experience, I can’t imagine him making such comments without even checking first at google using the keyword “isulong seoph” to see that there are domains registered last June1, june 2 which are already indexed by google after a few days.
June 15th, 2006
Kung ano ano pang kinokonpute ng Alfred. Eh kung walang prize ito, pero it gains enough publicity, ok na sa akin. Gasino na ang pera dito.
Lakeside and sponsors benefiting from it. Of course, kaya nga sila sponsors.
And si Jed, nagpropromote lang ng services nya.
More power to us and Isulong Seoph! Good ranking man, sana makahabol pa ako.

Pinoy Isulong Seoph Martinez>>
I agree with you man!
June 16th, 2006
money certainly isnt the issue here. it’s more like, the excitement of joining a pinoy seo contest. right? we get to test our guesses and ideas of the infamous google algo, and we learn from it. yeah, i guess thats why im joining this contest. and yeah, the domain is newly bought, and it’s now in the search results! =) goodluck to all of us!

NON – taken… did i say u cant be indexed?
Being indexed ang ranking in the Search Engine are entirely two different things!
I can get indexed by google in a a week or so… but being ranked, with new domains? Thats the problem!
